Work Experience

Media and Culture Director 2023 - Present
I currently work as the Media and Culture director for the University Program Board. This job requires me to plan weekly movies for students and staff, adding up to a total of 15 events planned each semester. This position has taught me a lot about event planning, organization, and leadership. Along with planning movies I lead a committee of about 8 members, and facilitate weekly meetings to discuss future ideas. I have enjoyed each minute of getting to know each of my members, along with meeting new people and getting them to join our particular committee. I have learned how to best lead a group of people which requires listening, empathy, and advocating for my team when needed.

Special Event Coordinator
Along with my position at the University Program Board, I work for JMU Parking and Transit Services. I have been apart of their team for about 3 years, and have recently been promoted to a special event coordinator. This position requires me to write parking violations for illegally parked cars, monitor lots for special events and check in VIPS, and help with freshmen move in and move out. I have developed strong conflict management skills from this position since there have been instances of aggressive customers with complaints or questions about a ticket. I have learned to keep a level head during these situations, and approach a person who might be difficult with compassion and understanding.

First Year Orientation Guide
In this volunteer position, I had to lead a group of 40 freshmen around JMUs campus and teach them about their resource's, where certain buildings are, and take them to required freshmen events. This required leadership, public speaking, and strong communication skills. During my groups first meeting, I decided to lead some ice breakers to ease some nerves. This was a useful tool that I learned because I was able to get a group of freshmen talking to one another while also having fun. I was able to connect with some freshmen and give them sound advice for their first year of college, which they appreciated and hopefully helped them out in the long run. This position was something out of my comfort zone, but I am proud that I did it and was able to help some people get used to their first year at college.

Night Operations
My job at JMU conference services was a summer position that required me to serve people living on campus. This was an after hour position, which means I would be the the main contact for a customer after 5 P.M. During that time, I either took incoming calls, helped people who got locked out of their rooms, and checked rooms to make sure they were ready for the next group of people. I was also required to work on call overnight, which was a difficult task to do because there were some nights I was up until 2 A.M making sure people were satisfied with their room. This job required a lot of thinking on my feet when a situation might arise since I would be the only one available to help. There were so many instances of people needing to move rooms and being locked out of their rooms which required quick problem solving.

Office Assistant
I recently had a job over the summer as an office assistant for a small construction company called High Temperature Linings. This company builds fire training structures all of the U.S., and owns the only tile in the world that is able to withstand certain temperature and last for years. This position required me to get in contact with different states, pay invoices and taxes, along with helping tracking orders and shipments to different work sites. One of the main jobs I did was work on their website, which was long overdue for an upgrade. I was able to use my previous experience with website building and design to create something that was easy to read and engaging. I also learned more about how to use Microsoft sheets and OneDrive.
